Dear Valued Hanna’s Handiworks Customer,
Today we are reaching out to inform you of a 7% (subject to change) ocean freight surcharge to be applied to all orders, including but not limited to Everyday Home, Holiday, Seasonal, and Licensed Collegiate orders, whether placed with us at market, online, by rep, phone, fax, or email.
Due to the explosion of costs for overseas containers, supply and demand of ocean freight, port backups, and global chain-of-logistics breakdowns, ocean freight costs have soared upwards of 300-400% since late 2020. As shipping container and ocean freight costs of 2020 were calculated and considered when pricing each item we brought to market in 2021, no one could have anticipated this extreme increase in actual costs as they were not expected at the time we set pricing, nor when early sales orders were placed. As we have watched and hoped alongside others in the industry that ocean freight costs would stabilize and drop, the opposite has happened. Now, like other wholesalers, we find ourselves in a never-ending bidding war for overseas container space and prompt delivery times amongst a sea of shortages and rising costs.
While we have been absorbing as much of this unanticipated freight cost as possible, we are a small, family-owned company and not in a position to continue doing so. Therefore, while doing our best to keep any additional costs passed onto you at a minimum and being fully transparent about the reasons for this update, we are imposing a 7% surcharge (subject to change) on every order in an effort to mitigate these rising ocean freight charges and stay in business.
Please know that we do not make this decision lightly. The ocean freight issue facing the shipping industry is a global one, affecting an array of consumer goods worldwide. While it is our continued hope that this situation will stabilize, we are working behind the scenes to bring you Hanna’s products as efficiently, timely, and cost-effectively as possible.
